Behavioral Health Internship/Externship
Type of clients served
Primarily low income, Spanish-speaking, Latino immigrants of all adult ages. Some children and adolescents. Services include a Ryan White program for individuals with HIV/AIDS, and prenatal program.

Supervisor is experienced in supporting students in working with culturally diverse groups. Which group: primarily Latino from many different Latin American countries, but many from Mexico and Central America
Clinica Tepeyac is a non-profit medical clinic, funded with private donations, foundation grants and more recently federal and Medicaid reimbursements. It furnishes integrated physical and behavioral health services, including brief interventions, individual therapy, psychoeducation, support and therapy groups; and family and couples.
Duties of BH student intern/extern
Clinic hours: M, W, F: 8:00 am- 5pm, Tues 8am-7pm, Thur 8am-6pm and Saturdays 8am-12pm. Must speak Spanish. Must commit to 20 hours per week for a minimum of two semesters. Do psychoeducation, brief introductions to therapy and brief interventions. Over time develops a caseload which may include clients receiving individual and/or family and couples therapy
Supervision format: Individual;
Ratio of supervision to clinical hours: One (1) hour of supervision per week per intern
Number of hours/week trainee works: minimum of 20 hours on site per week
Student extern/intern qualifications needed:
For masters students: Second year preferred with practicum completed by start of internship. Must Speak Spanish, and desire to do therapy in Spanish.
For doctoral students: Second and Third year student is acceptable, preferably with some experience in health, medical field or human services such as case management. Must Speak Spanish, and desire to do therapy in Spanish.
Special Note. Clinica Tepeyac is refining its approach to providing an integrated health and behavioral health format of service delivery. We also offer individual, group and family therapy.
